Done is Better than Perfect

Done is Better than Perfect

Done is better than perfect is a phrase I endorse to keep you from procrastination in pursuit of never being embarassed on the page. Everyone screws up at times even with the greatest of attention to detail and pain-staking edits. Trust me, you will not die of embarassment when a typo is discovered or you've published something that is less than flawless.

One of the reasons why my memoir is entitled The Secret Artist is that for the longest time I didn't feel qualified to call myself an artist. I had this crazy notion that I couldn't call myself an real artist because my expertise did not qualify me to have a piece of my work on display at a world famous museum.

Really? Are you serious? Yup, that was my rationalization.

Crazy thinking!

Until it dawned on me that we are all artists in our own way. I'll repeat that: we are all experts in our own way.

We are also human. It takes practice to perfect so many things: playing an instrument, drawing landscapes, financial balance sheets, scoring a piece of music, or a written piece that conveys a specific message.

My artistry is on display right here. With these words I paint a picture of an idea, introduce a concept and inspire hope for my readers. The initial writing sometimes is messy. At times writing is a process of putting a puzzle together consisting of many colorful pieces. There are many possibilities for some of the pieces to conect. Yet, when the words are arranged to be most impactful and inspirational, the picture is clear and powerful.

The problem is that it is not always a simple task to bring the picture into focus with your words. In the pursuit of perfect, some would get discouraged and throw up their hands and say WHY BOTHER?

I suggest to you that you embrade "Done is better than perfect!"

Find a happy medium and share what you have with the world rather than giving up.

I am an artist and so are you!

Keep showing up on the page and sharing your story. Every time you do that, more of your story will be revealed to you. The world needs you and your wisdom.
