Be You

Rewrite and Release the Story That No Longer Fits: You Don't Have to Carry Every Chapter Forward

Have you ever opened your closet at the beginning of a new season and discovered clothes you haven't worn in years?

You pick up a jacket and think, Why am I still keeping this?

Maybe it once fit perfectly.

Maybe you loved it.

Maybe it represented who you were during another season of your life.

But it doesn't fit anymore.

Our stories can be like that.

We carry beliefs about ourselves long after we've outgrown them.

I'm not a writer.

I'm too shy.

I'm not creative.

I'm not an expert.

It's too late for me.

Nobody wants to hear what I have to say.

Perhaps those beliefs began with something someone said decades ago. Perhaps they grew from disappointment, rejection, fear, or an experience you interpreted through much younger eyes.

Eventually, the belief became part of your identity.

But what if it no longer fits?

Rewriting Doesn't Mean Erasing

One of the most important Soul Story truths is that you have permission to rewrite your story.

That doesn't mean pretending painful experiences didn't happen. Our personal life events and the tragedies the world experiences together on so many levels.

It doesn't mean covering difficult memories with positive thinking.

It certainly doesn't mean changing the facts.

Rewriting means changing the meaning you continue to give those facts.

Perhaps an experience you once interpreted as failure taught you courage.

Perhaps a detour you resented introduced you to something essential.

Perhaps a season when you felt powerless eventually helped you discover your voice.

The experience hasn't changed.

But you have.

And because you have changed, you can return to an old chapter with new eyes.

Ask a Powerful Question

When an old story appears, try asking:

What if that isn't the whole story?

Maybe the story isn't:

I failed.

Maybe it is:

I had the courage to try.

Maybe the story isn't:

I wasted all those years.

Maybe it is:

Those years gave me wisdom I couldn't have gained any other way.

Maybe the story isn't:

My voice doesn't matter.

Maybe it is:

I haven't yet realized how much someone else needs to hear what I know.

One question can open an entirely different door.

You Hold the Pen Now

You didn't choose every experience you've lived through.

None of us does.

But you do have choices about the story you carry forward.

Imagine your life as a book sitting open before you.

The previous chapters have already been written.

Some contain joy.

Some contain heartbreak.

Some contain decisions you would make differently today.

They all belong.

But there is also a blank page.

And the pen is in your hand.

Your September Writing Invitation

Write down one belief about yourself that feels old, limiting, or simply too small for the woman you are today.

Begin with:

I used to believe...

Then write:

What I understand now is...

Finally:

The story I choose to carry forward is...

Notice what happens.

You may discover that rewriting your story isn't about becoming someone else.

It's about finally allowing your story to reflect the woman you've already become.
