The Winner is...
Have you ever had one of those magical moments where time seems to pause, and everything aligns in an almost otherworldly way? Perhaps it was a surprise recognition or a moment of sheer clarity when the universe whispered, “This is your time.”
For me, that moment came recently.
“And the winner of the Rising Star Award is… Mary Knippel!”
Wait—what? Did I just hear my name? Is this real?
Let’s go back a bit. A couple of months ago, I was nominated for an award—a humbling acknowledgment on its own. I didn’t dwell on the idea of winning; I simply focused on showing up for the moment. But here’s where the magic of synchronicity comes in. Somehow, the universe knew this was the right time for me to stand in the spotlight.
And I WON!
Yes, I am now the proud recipient of the Rising Star Award, presented by the wonderful Polka Dot Powerhouse Connection Company. With over 3,000 members across the globe, this award isn’t just about me—it’s about a collective celebration of inspiration, connection, and shared growth.
The women who were nominated alongside me are exceptional, each of them a light in her own field. To be counted among them is deeply humbling. Winning this award felt like a moment of synchronicity, a reminder that the stories we tell and the lives we touch are part of something much greater than ourselves.
As I heard my name and saw it flash across the jumbo screen, a wave of emotions washed over me. My heart raced, my tablemates cheered wildly, and for a brief second, I thought:
Is this real? Am I dreaming?
But no, it was real. It was the universe’s way of reminding me to embrace the compassion and inspiration I’ve always tried to pour into others—and to accept it back in return.
It felt like a win for so much more than just me.
This moment of recognition also brought back memories of a very different kind of “win” from my younger years—a time when I learned the power of standing up for myself.
It was the 1970s, and I was a young secretary who had been invited to a coworker’s Tupperware party. As a “Good Girl,” I accepted the invitation without hesitation—because that’s what we were raised to do. Show up, be polite, and never make waves.
During the party, we each selected a Tupperware container and read the prize inside. While most received fun little gifts or motivational quotes, my slip read:
“You’re a winner! You’ve won a FREE Tupperware party!”
My heart sank. Hosting a party was the last thing I wanted to do. But the Tupperware rep, with her calendar in hand, was determined to schedule my “prize.” My Good Girl instincts told me to smile, nod, and go along with it. After all, it would have been the polite thing to do, right?
But something inside me stirred—a voice that said, No, this isn’t for you. So, with cheeks flushed and my heart racing, I stood my ground. I refused the “win” and left the party (after purchasing a complete “starter” set of Tupperware) with a newfound respect for myself.
Looking back, I see the synchronicity in that moment. It wasn’t just about saying no to a Tupperware party. It was about learning to honor my truth, to embrace my own needs with compassion and clarity. That small act of boldness was a step toward becoming the woman I am today.
Fast forward to now, as I proudly accept the Rising Star Award. This is a moment not just of personal triumph but of collective inspiration. I disclose it on the page, share it in private conversations, declare it from the stage and shout it from the rooftops, if necessary, that the world needs our stories. It’s a reminder that every step we take—every story we tell—matters.
Our stories contain wisdom gathered from our many life experiences has given us confidence in our skills and made us the women we are today.
You, too, are a Rising Star.
Whatever your story, whatever your journey—you have the power to stand tall, own your victories, and shine your light unapologetically. Whether it’s a monumental award or a quiet, personal triumph, embrace the winner in you.
This month, as we celebrate gratitude, I’m deeply thankful for the inspiring women in my life—you included. Together, let’s embrace our identities as powerful role models and continue shining as the winners we are.
So go ahead, declare it:
“I am a winner. I am a Rising Star.”
Now, let’s keep shining bright and lighting the way for others.
With gratitude and love,
Mary
