Gather the Wisdom
Gather: Harvest the Wisdom of Your Life
Gather the Wisdom: Your Life Has Been Leaving You Clues
September is harvest season.
Fields turn golden. Gardens offer the last abundance of summer. Farmers gather what began months earlier as tiny seeds placed hopefully into the earth.
There is something deeply satisfying about harvest.
It reminds us that what was planted has become something.
Your life has a harvest, too.
Every experience you've lived has planted something within you.
Wisdom.
Compassion.
Discernment.
Courage.
Humor.
Patience.
Resilience.
Perspective.
The question is whether you've stopped long enough to gather it.
We Often Overlook Our Own Wisdom
When we hear the word wisdom, we may imagine someone who has studied for decades or achieved extraordinary things.
But some of our most valuable wisdom comes from simply living.
You've learned things because you loved someone.
Because you lost something.
Because you took a chance.
Because you made a mistake.
Because you started over.
Because you survived a season you weren't certain you could navigate.
Because you experienced unexpected joy.
You may take that knowledge for granted because it belongs to you.
To someone else, however, it could be exactly the wisdom they need.
Look for the Golden Threads
One of my favorite ways to explore a Soul Story is to look for the golden threads running through a life.
What experiences keep repeating?
What subjects have always fascinated you?
What have people consistently come to you for?
What challenges have you learned to navigate?
What do you know now that you wish someone had told you years ago?
When we begin gathering these threads, patterns emerge.
And those patterns can point us toward purpose.
They may become a personal essay.
A blog.
A keynote.
A workshop.
A memoir.
A book.
Or perhaps simply a story shared across a kitchen table that changes someone's perspective.
Not every story needs a publishing contract to be valuable.
But every story deserves to be recognized for the wisdom it contains.
Turn Experience Into Legacy
There is a beautiful moment in the Soul Story journey when we move from asking:
Why did this happen to me?
to asking:
What do I know because I lived through this?
That shift doesn't minimize pain.
It acknowledges wisdom.
And then another question becomes possible:
How could what I've learned help someone else?
That is where experience begins transforming into legacy.
Your September Writing Invitation
Complete this sentence:
If another woman were experiencing what I once experienced, I would want her to know...
Write for ten minutes.
Don't try to teach.
Don't try to sound wise.
Imagine one woman sitting across from you with a cup of tea, needing encouragement only you can give.
What would you tell her?
Read your words when you're finished.
There, among the sentences, you may discover one of the golden threads of your Soul Story.
You've spent a lifetime gathering wisdom.
Perhaps September is the season to recognize that your harvest isn't only for you.
Some of it may be meant to be shared.
